SLU 101 Reimagined | ALL SUMMER EVENTS

May 14th Update

Dear 101 Group Leaders and Families,

We appreciate you all sticking with us as we continue to assess the best course of action for SLU 101 this summer.  We have waited to make a call on our SLU 101 July programs until we had a clearer picture of whether a mass gathering would be possible, feasible, and wise.   As of today, we do not foresee that SLU 101 will be able to continue as a live, in person event. However, as we have discussed with you earlier, our team has been working hard on the SLU 101 Reimagined experience and as of today we are officially transitioning to this format for this coming July.   I have included the information below regarding this as well as the options you have for your group and deadlines to make your decisions by.

We realize that students will miss being at a live event (we will, too), but we believe that this time presents us with an opportunity to still be together, especially when so many camps and events have had to cancel their July events. Below are the details for you to consider as you choose the best option for your group/family.

Options:

  1. Transfer your current registration to one of our SLU 101 Reimagined virtual options. The dates are below. SLU 101 Reimagined is $200. If you have paid more, we will reimburse you the difference. The great part about this is that this option gives you a savings of over $400 that can be saved in preparation for your SLU 201 journey.
    1. SLU 101 Reimagined Virtual Week 3 – July 6-8- Deadline for New Registrations June 6th
    2. SLU 101 Reimagined Virtual Week 4  – July 20-22 – Deadline for New Registrations is June 20th
    3. Please note - we have Reimagined Weeks in June, but the registration deadline for these are rapidly approaching. You can select these options for your groups, but you must make your decision by the deadline below if these weeks are a preference for you:
      1. SLU 101 Reimagined Week 1 – Deadline is May 15
      2. SLU 101 Reimagined Week 2 – Deadline is May 22
  1. Transfer your existing registration and monies paid for any week in summer 2020 (minus transaction fees) to the corresponding week in the summer of 2021.  Please note that the balance due will be based upon the 2021 prices and the payment schedule will follow the 2021 dates.  If you make this transfer and then are unable to attend in 2021, your deposit will be non-refundable.
  2. Due to the options listed above, if you choose to simply cancel your registration for summer 2020, you will lose your deposit as we have already paid monies out and cannot obtain a refund of the monies we have already spent.
  3. Create a combination of the above options. In other words, if you have more than one person registered, you can move part of your registration to a 2020 Reimagined event, part to the summer of 2021 and cancel any that are unable to attend.

Action Steps:

  • Please email our team at info@studentleadership.net  by May 29th the decision on what is best for your existing registrations, and we will work with you to make the applicable changes.
  • Any new registrations can be added up to 30 days before the program at the deadlines noted above.

Though our SLU summer will look different this year, our dedication and relentless pursuit to provide students with a leadership experience that will equip and prepare them to lead fearlessly in the days ahead remains constant.  We are grateful for your trust in us and for the years of partnership.  We count it a huge privilege to come alongside your vision for equipping students to impact and influence their culture in the name of Jesus.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

May 1st Update

As promised, our team is checking back in with you regarding SLU 101 this summer.  Our goal continues to be to safely deliver to you an exceptional SLU 101 experience in whatever format we ultimately need to go with. While there has been a mix of reports both from our partners and from government officials over the last two weeks regarding COVID-19, the one thing that is clear is that more time is needed to determine the viability of a live and in-person experience in July.  Therefore, our team will continue to move forward in planning both our original SLU 101 in July as well as the SLU 101 Reimagine experience. We will check back with you again in two weeks as we continue to learn more and see if the Three Phase Plan has success in opening up our country.

In the meantime, we have included again the material sent to you in the last update as you weigh your options for this summer.   You can click here to learn more about the SLU 101 Reimagine Experience and see how our team is creatively committed to resourcing your students this summer.   If it does become clear in the coming weeks that LIVE events are not advisable when considering the safety of our SLU community, we will be adding additional SLU 101 Reimagine dates in July in addition to the June dates below for you to choose from.

SLU 101 Reimagined Information:

First of all, SLU Reimagined is not just a “virtual” conference. In other words, this experience isn’t sessions simply transitioned to a screen where a student will watch someone teach for hours upon hours while filling out a syllabus. We’ve gone into the lab and invented an entirely different experience that is a three-day conference involving three components:  A customized SLU Journey Box, a Highly Engaging Virtual Platform, and a Communal Spirit.  SLU Reimagined will provide students with the same leadership principles, taught by incredible thought leaders and presented in a creative and interactive way to ensure engagement and a hefty dose of fun!

Again, we are still moving forward with our LIVE July events.  Yet, below are the details for you to consider as you choose the best option for your group/family if our July events are transitioned to SLU 101 Reimagined:

Options:

    1. SLU 101 Reimagined Virtual Week 1 - June 15-17
    2. SLU 101 Reimagined Virtual Week 2 - June 22-24
    3. SLU 101 Reimagine Virtual July dates – these will be added if we can no longer safely hold live events
  3. Due to all the options listed above, if you choose to simply cancel your registration for summer 2020, you will lose your deposit as we have already paid monies out and cannot obtain a refund of the monies we have already spent.

Have a wonderful weekend and know our team is available to answer any questions. We will be back in touch in two weeks.

April 17th Update

SLU 101 Group Leaders and Families:

Reimagining, dreaming and creating are all concepts that we teach our students and is our natural response when facing new and unexpected realities.  As it became clear that our summers would look different in 2020, our SLU team went to work figuring out how to give our students the leadership training experience they desire, while honoring state and local guidelines/recommendations.

At SLU we are choosing every day to look into the face of pandemic and find our purpose. We are choosing to see this crisis as an opportunity for creativity. Therefore, WE ARE NOT CANCELLING SLU 101, but we are reimagining the June conferences to be experienced without getting on a plane or bus and staying in a hotel around hundreds of people.

The result is simply SLU 101 Reimagined.  First of all, SLU 101 Reimagined is not a “virtual” conference. In other words, this experience isn’t sessions simply transitioned to a screen where a student will watch someone teach for hours upon hours while filling out a syllabus. We’ve gone into the lab and invented an entirely different experience that is a three-day conference involving three components:  A customized SLU Journey Box, a Virtual Platform, and a Communal Spirit. Click here to Learn More!  SLU 101 Reimagined will provide students with the same leadership principles, taught by incredible thought leaders and presented in a creative and interactive way to ensure engagement and a hefty dose of fun!

Currently, all of our SLU 101 Orlando events for the month of June (programs starting June 15th, June 22nd, and June 29th), will now transition to SLU 101 Reimagined.  We have not made a determination for our July 6th and July 14th weeks and will not do so until we get closer to that time.

We realize that students will miss being at a live event, but we believe that this time presents us with an opportunity to still be together, especially when so many camps and events have had to cancel. Below are the details for you to consider as you choose the best option for your group/family.

    1. SLU 101 Reimagined Virtual Week 1 - June 15-17
    2. SLU 101 Reimagined Virtual Week 2 - June 22-24
  2. If you have registered for our June 15th, June 22nd or June 29th weeks and would like to transfer that registration to our July 6th or July 14th weeks which are still scheduled to be live events, you may do so. You will continue to follow the existing payment schedule. If you are currently registered for our July 6th or July 14th weeks and would like to remain, you do not have to do anything at this time.

Action Steps:

  • Once you determine which of the above options best suits the needs of your group, please email our team at info@studentleadership.net and we will work with you to make the applicable changes.

April 3rd Update

SLU 101 Group Leaders and Families:

There is so much that we have to be thankful for during this season of uncertainty. We have heard stories from so many of you of how you are impacting your communities and practically and tangibly living out the Gospel. Keep it up; we are in this together!

Now, as we look ahead to summer, we realize that there are many unknowns and even more questions.  While there are some details yet to be determined, we want to assure you that Student Leadership University will be training students to think, dream and lead at the feet of Jesus this summer!  We are an organization that prepares for the best, prepares for the worst, and everything in between. Whether it is a live event or the most creative virtual leadership training experience in history, SLU 101 will be here to serve students this summer.

With this in mind, we will continue to keep you updated as we finalize SLU 101 for this summer. In the coming weeks we will reveal the incredible plans we have for 101 2020 if it becomes necessary to adjust part or all of our program weeks to a virtual experience. We, as always, are committed to providing an experience that is life-changing, experiential and inspiring as we know students can and will use this as a springboard to fulfilling God’s plans for their lives.

We will be in touch in the coming weeks and cannot wait to serve you this summer!

MARCH 18TH UPDATE

Dear 101 Families and Leaders:

It is our desire to continue to keep you updated on our 101 Summer programs. Our hope for each of you is that even during these unprecedented times, you would remember that God is not only in control but is trustworthy and faithful.  Be strong; read, pray, and share Scripture, for it is the power of life.

After seeing the incredible move of God this spring in so many churches and schools, we are even more confident that He who began a good work will be faithful to complete it. In a recent team meeting and for our SLU post today, Brent reminded us that history has proven that the Church shines the brightest when the world seems the darkest.

Through the months ahead, SLU is choosing to navigate the pandemic with this mindset:

  • Think but do not be consumed
  • Prepare without becoming passive
  • Love in such a way that others experience Jesus
  • Lead so that others become convinced

Here is what we want you to know about our upcoming 101 programs this summer:

  • Our Current Plan: We are prayerfully expecting to hold our SLU 101 summer programs as normal. As we shared on March 9th, we are closely monitoring health and government recommendations for COVID-19.  This situation is changing daily and we remain committed to put students’ safety first. We teach our students at SLU 101 that good leaders are not reactive.  From all our experts and partners, most domestic program cancellations are only recommended through early May. Over the next several weeks, experts are watching to see how effective social distancing will be on the spread of COVID-19. We are as well.

  • Making Wise Decisions for your Group: Due to school and church closures, many of you have been asked to hold on making additional plans for the summer, so we know you are trying to make a good decision about your groups. Here’s what you need to know. Our current cancellation policy states that you can wait up to 45 days before your registered program to cancel and only your deposit will be lost. This means that your current reservation can be held in confidence until this time. We will know a lot more about the COVID-19 progression in the next two months and we will be in contact well before that time if anything changes concerning this.

  • Surprises in Store: Due to the fact that so many students will be losing out on special moments such as prom, athletics, senior trips, etc. the time spent at SLU 101 this summer will be much needed.  We are already working to add a few surprises to help soften the sting of what they have lost.

We are confident of this: God is on the move. He has always been on the move. His mission cannot be contained, controlled, or quarantined.   We covet your prayers, are grateful for your belief in Student Leadership University and look forward to our continued partnership as we keep Jesus the center of our thoughts, decisions and actions.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact our team.  We cannot wait to serve you this summer!

MARCH 9TH UPDATE

What you need to know:

Dr. Jay, Brent and our team could not be more thrilled at the opportunity to have you join us this summer at our SLU programs.  We are continuing to monitor the spread of COVID-19, also known as the coronavirus. This is a rapidly changing situation, and we will continue to evaluate the situation and develop and execute plans to maintain the safety of our SLU attendees.

We accept the responsibility of having your students with us at SLU as a privilege.  Their safety has been and will always be our number one priority. With our many years of travel experience and relationships with long-term partners, we are able to adjust when necessary.  While it is too soon to make the call about altering the experience this summer, we have begun to think through options to assure a safe, quality experience for your students. In addition, we are in contact with all our venues and suppliers to ensure they are putting enhanced cleaning protocols in place to protect our attendees.

In the meantime, here are a couple steps you can take as you prepare for this experience:

  • Get Travel Protection: We strongly encourage all participants to consider getting the CFAR travel protection through our partner Travel Insured: https://www.slulead.com/slu-information-on-insurance.  This is a great option to consider as it just needs to be purchased before the final payment deadline and can be purchased directly through the link. Also, you have the ability to get protection on trips purchased through SLU as well as any costs associated with air travel purchased outside of SLU.
  • Know the Facts:  There is a lot of travel related information and advisories being issued. This helpful link gives you some good information to consider.
  • Continue to Monitor: Join us in continuing to monitor information from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the U.S. State Department and these resources for the latest travel advisories.

How is SLU remaining properly informed?

We are in regular contact with health officials, our own health experts, and members of the State Department and are carefully monitoring the COVID-19 situation and the advisories being sent out.

If I choose not to attend a SLU summer program, and it proceeds as normal, will I get a refund?

At this point, we will not be changing our refund and cancellation policy if an attendee chooses to not attend a program that we continue to hold.  We are encouraging all attendees to be informed about the travel protection we offer through our partner Travel Insured. This is a great option to consider as it just needs to be purchased before the final payment deadline. It can be purchased directly through this link https://www.slulead.com/slu-information-on-insurance

How can I minimize my risk of contracting COVID-19?

The best way to prevent infection is to avoid exposure to the virus. The CDC recommends everyday actions detailed below:

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth
  • Stay home if you are sick
  • Cover your cough or sneeze
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds

Our Ultimate Hope

As Christians, we have a confident hope and expectant trust in the sovereignty of our incredible God.  He is in control, and He is trustworthy. He is our very present help in times of trouble. As we walk through these uncertain times together, may we never lose sight of the truth of God’s Word and our unwavering assurance that He who began a good work is faithful to complete it.
