Ariel Pecoraro attended SLU 101, 201, 301, and 401 as a high school student. When she wrote her goals down at SLU 101, Ariel had one mission in mind: she dreamed of one day having a positive impact on orphans in Africa. We are grateful for her willingness to share her vision on the blog today.
Ariel is currently an interior design student at Baylor University and has founded My Child Ministries, a non-profit organization that helps to build orphanages for children in Kenya.
As a developing ministry, our goal is to establish and nurture hope, love, and a future for orphans by building local homes with the love of Jesus Christ. Through designing and building homes, we set out to love children who are broken and empty and instill hope by bringing the fatherless children of the world up in the way of the Lord.
This organization will go out and build orphanages for existing missionaries or other ministries that have already found orphans who need homes, but have no way of providing them. This will develop a nurturing environment for the children, and we will continue to sustain the orphanage. We want to help raise these children to become future leaders and upright adults in their countries.
During the summer of 2013, My Child Ministries broke ground on their first home in Eldoret, Kenya, in partnership with International Vision Center. Currently, we are initiating a new round of fundraising to complete the orphanage. What is left to be completed is the plaster, windows, doors, ceiling, electrical work, plumbing work, painting, and flooring.
So far, we have raised money for their projects through monthly partners and t-shirt sales. It’s pretty amazing what God has done just by word of mouth! Anyone who can and wants to help is appreciated! We could use the skills of architects, construction workers, people to help furnish and stock the house, those of you who have a passion for children, anyone who feels the tug to financially support the organization, and anyone who wants to just keep the ministry in their prayers.
